Lophosoria quadripinnata
A very graceful fern with soft foliage. The mature undersides of the lamina are a silvery glaucous blue which is very striking. It would appear to be suitable in my experience to open, windy positions. Also it can be used to good effect on banks where the undersides of the fronds will be more visible. I have had this fern for 3 years now and never had a problem with it's hardiness in my garden. Plants for sale are approximately 2 foot - 60cm in total height but will grow to much larger plants over a period of years. I saw massive plants in the Juan Fernandez Islands with huge stipes and also received a small number of large plants this year direct from mainland Chile with fronds around 6 foot - 180cm in total height.
